Brgya kong

  • Description :Butter Lamps brgyakong (Mchoedkong), are usually made of bronze or silver, and decorated profusely with auspicious symbols.Brgyakongare common sight in the sanctum of both Buddhist and Hindus but Buddhist have adorned these lamps with their varied designs and motifs and the spiritual quality of art. The particular silver brgyakong is adorned all over with lustrous flower designs; inverted lotus is depicted at the base with appropriate proportions. The protruding central waist is designed with three flowers, each flower having four perforated holes. Four reliefs out side the upper bowl are combined emblem of eight lucky signs.

    The upper bowl is adorned with leaves, flowers and geometrical motifs emerging from the inverted lotus petals. This kind of mchodkong are called Klong-Ldongmchoedkong or Thuptenmchodkong, this was designed to commemorate the demise of Gelukpalama Longdong.

    The wick of the butter lamp consists of cotton wound around a tapered wooden stick. Butter lamps, symbolizing the light of wisdom, are essential offerings on a Buddhist altar.
