Jong-drung

  • Description :Jong-drung is a jug made in the union of both copper and brass, and utilize as a container for Chang or Ja. The cylindrical jug is crowned by a torana shape brass sheet just above the spout and the back is fashioned as a pointed gable. The cylindrical body is fastened by cross brass sheet. The copper body is bordered by brass sheet from all-over and the linear in them is done in low-relief. The typical spout is moulded in brass, the handle is made of copper and encase with the brass.

    In one of the Jhong-drung, which is the bigger one have ashou symbol in appliqué. The three brass shou are fixed at the three sides of the jug. There are believed to be more than a hundred Stylistic variation of this symbol, and it is commonly found on Chinese porcelain and seals, Tibetan tent decorations, carpets and as a motif on implements and furniture.

    Shou is believed to be Chinese god of Longevity. This Taoist design is created from the stylization of the Chinese written character shou.
