Description :Nurupuraee is a stone made threshing roller, used in agricultural harvesting operations in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This type of traditional roller is an important agricultural implement used for separation of gain from paddy and pulses particularly green gram, black gram, horse gram etc. The round stone body of this roller made up of granite is considered to be very ideal for threshing of crops. It is nearly 400 to 500 kms. in weight, made of a single piece of round granite block. It is attached with a simple ‘Y’ shaped wooden long beam and locked with side iron axle used for tying with yoke made up of a country palm leaf ropes called Tatinara. This implement is operated by using animals, either bullocks or he-buffaloes depending upon the availability of the animals. Sometimes, it is also used for non-agricultural activities on rare occasions particularly for rural earth works i.e. leveling of the soil, making the earthen roads etc. It is widely used agricultural implement among the rural agricultural families of Andhra Pradesh. It is the most singular implement of post agricultural harvesting operations in this area.
