Description :Wooden grinder collected from Thoubal district of Manipur. ‘Chakri’ is a native term used for a grinder. This heavy wooden grinder is operated manually by rotating the log fixed on upper portion which is called ‘Makhum’. This particular grinder was exclusively meant for paddy grinding for domestic consumption.
The lower segment of the log called Mahak contains grinding teeth where as the upper log has an inlet for pouring grains which allows the grains to pass into the grinding teeth. The frictional obstructions generated between the logs allow crushing and grinding the paddy. Now-a-days this technology is very rare in the region.
