Description :In south and parts of western India, a devdasi is a girl which is dedicated to worship and service of a deity or a temple for the rest of her life. The tradition of devadasis or temple dancing girls had fallen into disgrace which is regarded to public shame. This paper highlights that how dedicating dancing girls to temples in not appropriate where Bharatanatyam had also got lost in its value. After denouncing this tradition a new Bharatanatyam evolved which is wholly a theatre art for performance and delectation and freely accessible to all sections of society not as the previous one which is prerogative of any caste or class.
