This video is a documentary on the religious festival of Kumbh Mela. Kumbh Mela is widely known as the largest religious gathering in the world. The name ‘Kumbh’ is derived from the Sanskrit word kumbh which means pot and the term ‘mela’ usually denotes a fair. However, the Kumbh Mela transcends the meaning of a traditional fair, it is a massive spiritual gathering, a unique spectacle which attracts pilgrims from all over India and the world. It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation, Haridwar, Allahabad, Nasik and Ujjain. The Ardha Kumbh or half Kumbh is held at only two places, Haridwar and Allahabad every sixth year and the Maha Kumbha occurs after 144 years. The Kumbh at Allahabad is considered significant. The Kumbh Mela or the grand fair is held on the banks of the rivers Ganga in Allahabad, Saraswati in Haridwar, Godavari in Nasik and Shipra in Ujjain.
