The video presents a selection from the Thumri Rang music festival organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi at Kolkata in 2008.The performer is the well-known exponent of Hindustani classical music and thumri singer Rita Ganguly. The recital is a thumri and the bols are "Ho Nirmohi, Sapne Main Aa Ja." The performer is accompanied by Ghulam Sabir Khan on sarangi, Sabir Khan on the tabla and RabindraNath Chakrabarty on the harmonium. Rita Ganguly was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Her specialization is in the thumri style of singing for which she trained under masters like Siddeshwari Devi and Begum Akhtar. Her vocal performances are noted for their expressive bol-alaps and her melodious and finely nuanced rendition of thumris, ghazals, dadras. In stage presentation she is a great representative of the aesthetics and style of her legendary guru, Begum Akhtar.
