Description :The present paper is described about the term opera in the context of theatre. It is a convenient label for theatrical activity of a certain variety which developed in the region during the late 19th century and which generically is neither dance theatres based on dance and utilizing it as a principal means of expression-nor puppet theatre. This paper also sheds some light on the Bangsawan which is the modem elements in Malay theatre. Its include the proscenium arch, the actor-audience division and the darkened auditorium.
