Description :The scope of this sketch is to give a broad outline of a movement which has passed its infancy and now reached adolescence. Drama and theatre together present a vast field. In a way, it is misleading to speak of 'Punjabi Theatre', There is no such theatre around which some tradition or the other has crystalized. There are simply amateur dramatic groups in towns and the remnants off folk traditions in the villages. The Gaiety Theatre in Shirnla has undoubtedly been used very much since the Partition but it maintains no company and has not given rise to any abiding tradition. To our knowledge, there is no professional theatre company with a repertoire of Punjabi plays
