About Our Portal

The National Virtual Library of India is a project of the Ministry of Culture, managed by IIT-Bombay. The project began in the year 2015.

IIT-Bombay has successfully developed the ‘Indian Culture Portal’ (www.indianculture.gov.in) which is the single source for a variety of resources related to Indian history, heritage and culture. The portal is designed for varied audiences from students, researchers to academicians or even history/heritage enthusiasts.

The Indian Culture portal was launched by the Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (I/C), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel on the 10th of December 2019. The portal provides content sorted into 22 different categories.

All the data (both digital and bibliographic) on the Indian Culture Portal has been provided by the various MoC organisations.

The Indian Culture portal will be available on mobiles as Android app and iOS app. The content of this portal is also available on the UMANG app of Govt. of India.
